Take a Look at Louis Vuitton x Urs Fischer Collection

7 January, 2021

Over the centuries, the intimate bond between the world of art and luxury is closely intertwined, including at the fashion house Louis Vuitton.

The Maison often collaborates with a series of celebrated artists, such as Sol LeWitt, James Rosenquist and Henry Taylor, to transform its distinctive designs into one-of-a-kind masterpieces. For the centenary celebration of its Monogram design in 1996, LV teamed up with seven designers from Azzedine Alaïa to Romeo Gigli, and many more.

Next up to recreate a unique object that perfectly fits the celebrated textile was Stephen Sprouse for the 2001 spring/ summer ready-to-wear collection. The New Yorker artist altered the Monogram design by adding his signature coloured graffiti elements, which further cemented LV and its position as a trendsetter in the luxury industry. Today, the French powerhouse has worked with acclaimed Swiss artist Urs Fischer. He reworked the flowers from the original 1896 Monogram patterns with a new hand-drawn version that he called “sketches of memory”. Highlighting Fischer’s playfully audacious creative vision, the designer made the motifs seem like floating and moving before the eyes.

Moreover, this new collection also features a series of whimsical characters by Fischer including a sleeping cat in a banana skin, a bird carrying a peach, an avocado meeting an egg, and a cat holding a lightbulb. Available in combinations of black-and-red as well as black- and-white, the new Monogram appears on all collections from seven special-edition bags to trousers, dresses and hard-sided beauty cases, and will be launched worldwide in the Louis Vuitton store in January 2021.
